A recent visit to Raising Cane's on Corporate brought back a few memories. I readily noticed a display promoting a project that helps kids and the community. Todd Graves and his team encourage young entrepreneurs to start a business and quench some summertime thirsts. Lemonade stands will be popping up all over our community and around the country thanks to their guidance. With summer 54 days away, Raising Cane’s fresh squeezed lemonade is great year round. More than 80,000 pounds of lemons are squashed each day and we did the same when we were kids – to a much lesser extent. Lemons, at Locasano's grocery or Kroger's were rare and expensive.
Mom stockpiled a lemon concentrate called Reamer’s Blend. After a ball-game we'd bee-line it to the frig for refreshments. Mom also saved the water from boiled potatoes to better activate the yeast for her home-made bread. Next to the Blend pitcher was a same-colored quart of potato water."Mom, this isn't Blend it's tater water... Geez..."
